EA Attempts to Halt Server Problems By Cutting Features in SimCity

As SimCity server problems continue, EA is scrambling to make things right again. The game developer has made the decision to start disabling the game’s non-essential functions to help with the server issues.

EA Server Issues Cause Non-Essential Functions to Halt

On the SimCity forum, the community manager made a point to thoroughly explain what is being done with SimCity and why. He was quoted as having said:

We are continuing to do everything we can to address the server issues. In the meantime, so that we can give you as good an experience as possible, we are in the process of deploying a hotfix to all servers. This includes various improvements and also disables a few non-critical gameplay features (leaderboards, achievements and region filters). Disabling these features will in no way affect your core gameplay experience.

The community manager goes on to say that EA will be updating players as more information is learned about the issues. This, unfortunately, has been a fairly trouble-ridden launch for the popular game and of course, fans have not had any qualms about voicing their anger over the glitchy-ness of the game. They have taken to social media and other forums to complain about the server issues as well as the always-on DRM.

In response, the SimCity Twitter account has responded with a tweet that is meant to ease the wounds of upset gamers:

SimCity is set to launch in Europe at the end of the week and European gamers are already voicing their concerns that the game won’t be functioning properly. EA, however, has reassured its European fans via Origin that everything is going to be OK.
