Blockbuster UK Reports Massive Pre-order Sales for Xbox One

The Xbox One’s announcement hasn’t been much of a success with gamers around the world (wide web). Most of them hate the Once-a-day Internet spot check and others hate the complexity of playing used games on the console. However, one UK retailer has something different to say about the consoles popularity.

According to Blockbuster (UK), the Xbox One pre-orders have been huge. Blockbuster is offering a chance to Pre-order the upcoming Xbox One for £20. The company has reported that the large number of pre-orders it has received is a record for the retailer. In its 24-year history, Blockbuster has never received the number of pre-orders that could even come close to the Xbox One, then again it’s mostly a Video rental outlet.

BlockBuster Head of Games department, James Morton, had the following to say,

We are delighted by the huge number of pre orders that we have received so far for the new Microsoft console,”

At Blockbuster, we have a fantastic array of adrenaline-fuelled console games for sale or rental. Our expert staff know gaming and they know consoles and these pre-orders are testament to our customers’ trust in us as a leading gaming retailer.

With Sony releasing the PS4 in the near future, the next few months are going to be an exciting time for our staff and customers at Blockbuster and we can’t wait to hear more details from both Sony and Microsoft at the E3 Expo next month.

This is really interesting news, Not. One thing to notice here is that, these so called “Massive” sales numbers are from a Not-so-huge Gaming retailer. For all we know, it could be 1000 pre-orders and Blockbuster is out there celebrating because they’ve never even crossed the 500 mark before, however, that’s just me being dubious. We need solid sales figures before celebrating the success of the console that has not been even released yet.

One console or a million consoles, pre-orders don’t decide the fate of the console. We all remember how that worked out for Wii U. The only thing that will decide the future of the console are the features it has in addition to gaming because lets face it, nobody wants to buy an expensive console just to play games on it, they want something more including but not limited to movies,TV, apps, etc. Not everyone in the household is a gamer, so all they want is a single console that could cater to the needs of everyone from casual gamers to hardcore gamers.

Xbox One is all about providing everything to everyone. This generation would be interesting, all we want to see is how both Xbox One and PS4 fare against each other.

Whose side are you on? Let us know.

Just thought it was worth noting that Blockbusters is one of the largest and most enduring rental shops in the UK. If they  pre-order figures are high then it’s nowt to scoff at!

    1. MegaWestgarth I know BB is a big store but as you said, it’s the largest “Rental” shop, I’d like to see some solid numbers and stats instead of words like “Massive” and “Huge” sales.

DilawerS Oh they sell new games and films too, have done for years. But yeah, like you said, they haven’t given any stats or figures. Blockbusters isn’t really saying anything at all.

        1. MegaWestgarth DilawerS of course they do but they’re not the biggest console sellers AFAIK. Solid figures would definitely clear up a lot of things.
