Another ‘Matrix’ Movie Is in Early Production Stages

Ready or not, here comes another Matrix movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot is in early stages of development and it’s unclear what direction it will take. Their sources tell them that Zach Penn, who co-wrote the Avengers script, is in talks with Warner Bros. about taking on the role of screenwriter. It seems the film studio was also contacted by Joel Silver, producer of the Matrix trilogy, though they may be reluctant to allow his involvement. Fair enough, since his apparent tension with the directors of the trilogy, the Wachowski sisters, could prove problematic.

Speaking of the famous sibling duo, Keanu Reeves had something to say to Yahoo Movies as far as considering a role in the reboot.

“The Wachowskis would have to be involved. They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not?”

Of course, we don’t know if any of the cast of the original Matrix series will be involved. The Hollywood Reporter did catch wind that Michael B. Jordan is being eyed for a role.

Well, he certainly looks up to the challenge to snag a part in this ambitious project. The first Matrix film was released in 1999 and it’s been less than 15 years since the release of its sequels. It seems a bit soon to need to completely reinvent such a beloved film, but a spinoff doesn’t seem unprecedented. Today’s special effects could produce a pretty epic remake of the slow-mo, bullet-dodging scene…
