Vin Diesel Meets With Marvel

At this point I don’t think it’s possible for Marvel hype to get any bigger. With every new movie announcement or rumor, the superhero train gains more steam. So here we are to feed that fire a little bit. Vin Diesel announced on his Facebook page that he met with Marvel to discuss…something. He doesn’t say what exactly. But it’s not like Diesel met with Marvel brass to discuss his pick to win “So You Think You Can Dance.” He’s obviously been presented with a role in an upcoming project.

Avengers and the Furious

Vin Diesel has seen an increase in his already considerable star power since the “Fast and the Furious” films have turned from moderate successes into bank breaking juggernauts at the box-office. The close to $700 million worldwide, that “Fast 6” pulled in, will do that to its starring actors. There’s also the more modestly successful sci-fi series “The Chronicles of Riddick” for which Diesel plays the lead. So why not add a third franchise to your plate, if they’re offering one.

Diesel’s Facebook post accompanied by the photo above read as follows:

“Marvel meeting today…

Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed…

P.s. Thanks to Our page, for pushing to make it happen… you know I get tunnel vision with my work… and after that meeting today… wow!”

So besides the photo we don’t have much to speculate from. But Diesel’s build would make him an ideal fit for many of the muscle-bound heroes in the Marvel universe. The current production schedule would make “The Avengers 2” or “Ant-Man” the logical choices for who would be in the initial stages of casting lead actors right now. “Guardians of the Galaxy” seems to be all set with the leads after the announcement this week that Benecio Del Toro will play The Collector. You may have noticed that Giant Man is the prominent character displayed next to Diesel in the photo. Giant Man is an alter-ego of Hank Pym just like Ant-Man is.

Now we’re speculating quite a bit here, but writer/director Edgar Wright has said his idea for the Ant-Man film is to include both Dr. Hank Pym as the original Ant-Man and Scott Lang, a later incarnation of the character. Lang was a criminal, who initially stole the costume from Pym. Diesel may not fit the type for Pym, who is a genius with a PHD, but how about Lang, a common criminal turned hero. That makes a lot of sense if you ask me.

Now it may turn out Diesel is going to be the voice of Rocket Raccoon or something, but us fans have to pass the time somehow, so why not guess. He also uses the word “vision” in his post. Maybe he’s hinting that we’ll see Vision in ‘The Avengers 2.” Diesel also fits the general build of Luke Cage, who has been pegged for a release during Marvel’s phase three. But he’d have to fight his “Fast and Furious” co-star Dwayne “The Rock Johnson” for it. The Rock has stated on multiple occasions that he wants to play the “Hero for Hire,” but I imagine Marvel is trying to deal with their phase two releases at this point.

So do you think that Vin Diesel fits as Scott Lang, Vision or Luke Cage? He could also be playing one of countless villains in the Marvel catalogue. Add this to your pile of Marvel rumors to mull over in the coming months.
