Tablet v Laptop: The Classic Debate

So you’re looking for a new laptop or tablet but you don’t know which to buy? Well, it all depends on what you intend to use it for. They are both perfectly competent pieces of technology with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Tablets are all about apps, providing a user experience via the use of a touch screen. They can be ideal to browse the web, whether it’s online shopping or reading the news you’re after. You can also read books on most tablets and can even watch your favourite TV show or film on the move.

Tablets are also more suited for playing lightweight games. Most laptops may be fitted with a camera, but tablets are generally fitted with a front and rear camera, meaning tablets are perfect for on the move, and can double as a camera and you have less stuff to carry.

Tablets do have a slight advantage in display quality. A device’s pixel density determines the sharpness of the display and after several hours of use, how much your eyes will or won’t hurt. Measured in pixel per inch (PPI), the average tablet has 260 PPI (pixels per inch) whereas the average for laptops below 200 PPI.

Therefore, most tablets will be easier on the eyes, and thus, better for extended viewing. And extended viewing means extended gaming.

Games like Angry Birds and Candy Crush are popular amongst tablets, but so is online gambling. Most, if not all, high-street betting chains have an app now, and if not, they certainly have a website. Themed slot games, such as bonusy bez depozytu for example, are some of the most popular varieties and allow you to visit the casino without leaving the house. In addition, they offer you the chance to play for free. You can, of course, play the game on your laptop but you may favour the display, feel and practicality of a tablet.

A laptop is generally a more practical computer, it’s compact and mobile, yet you can still perform all the tasks available on a desktop but in a mobile, light, compact fashion.

Whilst tablet’s have been described as the “pinnacle of modern technology – being lightweight, more compact than laptops and a lot easier to carry – they may not be to everyone’s needs. Tablets generally range from 7-11 inches, however, The Plenar Helium laptop has a 27-inch display. There, of course, variations on the market with the Acer Aspire One having a display of just 10.1inches, so there’s a wide variety to suit your needs.

Tablets won’t suit everyone’s needs as they don’t possess the same processing power as a laptop. Due to technological improvements in recent years, such as Intel’s Skylake CPU, laptops are now capable of multitasking without hindering performance issues. Moreover, they can provide data-driven tasks, such as spreadsheet analysis and database migrations, much more quickly. If you’re after a device for work or university, then perhaps a laptop is more suited to your needs.

There is no overall winner when it comes to the tablet v tablet debate; each has their own advantages and disadvantages for certain needs. Laptops are great for work whereas tablets are also great for gaming.
