Mortal Kombat X: Will The Dreaded Error CE-34878-0 Ever Be Fixed?

As some of you Sony fans may have noticed, Mortal Kombat X has begun to kill your Playstation 4.  Not permanently, of course. I am one of many who has found my PS4 donning the dreaded “Error occurred (CE-34878-0)” screen.

Mortal Kombat X: Resolutions and Temporary Fix

I’ve heard some players were able to resolve the issue by pressing buttons wildly until it jumped past where the intro video would play, while others simply traded in their game at the store and this resolved their issue.  Some of us, however, are less lucky and either couldn’t get through or our copy is digital.  When contacting Sony with this issue, they responded that they are aware of the issue and are working to solve it.  If we didn’t already assume the obvious, the issues were caused by Sony’s patch 1.01.  You can resolve the issue partially by deleting and reinstalling the game without the patch, however this does not allow for online play. Players have also found that in some cases, the DLC will crash the game, and in order for it to work, they have to disable it, re-launch the game, and then they can re-enable the DLC in the game.

These issues have caused a lot of frustration among players.  Those that can’t access the game wonder why there are others who can, and why Sony has yet to resolve this issue.  Even if they downloaded the game again without the patch, they lose access to what most players feel is their favorite part of the game.  Also, if you do want to play, the temporary fix where you uninstall the patch and reinstall the game has to happen every single time you want to play.  This is time that is taken away from the players, and we all know how scarce patience is these days, especially among gamers.

It’s Not Just PS4, Other Systems are Having Issues

All of this is on top of the fact that Mortal Kombat X is getting a lot of hate for its PC version.  PC gamers are complaining about missing animations, horrible framerate, and many other issues. From being late to launch, to the regular crashing, you only have to look at the game’s steam page to see how horrible its reception is.

Xbox One players also seem to be having their own issues with the game.  There are fewer complaints, but still some out there complaining about the game not loading past the licensing screen.  Also, their issue seems to be as simply resolved as power-cycling through the console.

NetherRealm Studios Not Responsive

So, what does this mean for the Mortal Kombat games? Will the disappointment and anger from the players mean this could be the last game in the series? Will NetherRealm do anything to save themselves from this flop? Thus far there has been little to no recognition publicly of the issues, and the latest news released on their own website was on March 7th.  We will be watching out for more information as it comes in, and fingers crossed for all you gamers out there anxiously awaiting the news on whether MKX will rise from the ashes.

  1. It’s the year 2017 and this ridiculous error message still pops up on my physical copy of Mortal Kombat XL, and I just bought it a month ago. I returned it for another copy and same thing happened. I can usually get through a few hours of gameplay without it happening, but point is it does and Netherrealm clearly never fixed the issue. It’s disappointing as hell and makes me leery of investing in another of their games in the future.
