He’s Back: The First Full Trailer for Doctor Who Season 8

After several frustratingly short 15-second teasers, BBC One, finally doing us fans a huge favor, has now released the first full-length trailer for the newest session of our beloved TV show, Doctor Who Season 8. The barely-over-a-minute-long trailer, is titled ‘Doctor Who – Series Eight Trailer – New Doctor, New Monsters and Old Enemies,’ and features Peter Capaldi as the twelfth doctor looking strikingly formidable with his mysterious companion Clara “the impossible girl” Oswald, still played by Jenna Coleman.

Amidst a lot of darkness, flashing lights, and fleeting shots, we see Clara feeling unsure about who the Doctor is, hear a Dalek say “Life Returns…Life Prevails,” watch the Doctor talking about making things right and going to “Darkness,” and several clips including a rampaging T-rex, cybermen-like creatures, and the Doctor speeding somewhere on horseback, in what looks like an old man’s boring white night-suit. All in all, the trailer tells us nothing new about the upcoming season and ends with the Doctor and Clara sitting inside the TARDIS, calmly discussing whether or not he is, in fact, a “good man.” Who knows what that’s going to lead up to…

Alongside the trailer, BBC also revealed the release date for the season 8 premiere. According to their press release, avid Doctor Who fans get to watch the beginning of the Doctor’s new adventures with his new face and new enemies (doesn’t he have enough already?) as early as Saturday, August 23 at 8 pm EST but whether or not they will is another question.

No true Whovian is unaware of the debate over the casting and quite some people seem to believe that Capaldi is a little too old to be of interest to the younger fan-base. I would prefer to watch a couple of episodes before I give my verdict, but this might, after all, be one of the reasons why Capaldi and Coleman are undertaking their first ever Doctor Who World Tour. As BBC America has announced, the grand tour “will kick off in Cardiff, Wales before heading to London, Seoul, Sydney, New York, Mexico City, and Rio de Janeiro.”

Book your tickets, fellow American fans, they land here on August 14!
