Emilia Clarke Breaks Silence About Her “Solo” Character

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Emilia Clarke has given some insight into her character, Qi’ra, in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Aside from being rumored as Han’s love interest, there’s not been much information about Qi’ra. Maybe there’s a reason for the air of mystery around her. According to Clarke, Qi’ra is just that. A mystery.

“There is a thing throughout the relationship [with Han] you just can’t put your finger on. And that’s Qi’ra. Every time you think you have got her number you realize you haven’t at all.”

Clarke also describes Qi’ra as an “enigma” and says that she helped shape the Han that we first met in the original Star Wars trilogy. And despite the fancy capes you may have seen her in, there’s a lot more to her than glamour.

“Well, if you have got a really glamorous lady in a really sordid environment you kind of know that maybe the glamour is hiding a few rough roads.”

This isn’t too far off from Clarke’s role as Daenerys in Game of Thrones, who is definitely not afraid to get her hands dirty once in a while. Obviously, she is all about those strong, female characters and wasn’t afraid to say it in her interview.

“I am never going to take a job that doesn’t tell that story, because I think it’s a very important narrative that we are telling all ages at all stages. And whilst it is Han Solo’s movie, this girl gets to be badass. And strong. And has her own journey. Qi’ra’s journey is definitely one of survival and strength. The way that I felt about her was yeah this girl has got a core of steel.”
