Say it isn’t so!
Rumours have been swirling around that Facebook intends to start charging their users. The social media giant top heads have been declaring that Facebook is free and forever will be free. The question here is whether this is true? Facebook recently introduced a feature that allows users to pay to promote their posts. You could just imagine the shock of being asked for your credit card details; so that your post can be seen by everyone – talk about a ‘geek shock’.
According to sources it does not stop there, rumours suggest that the social media giant is planning to introduce a subscription fee for its users which might start at a basic rate of $1.00; depending on how many facebook friends you have and also the amount of messages posted and sent on your Facebook page. I think its time to start deleting friends on my Facebook. So, basically, the more you use Facebook the more you have to start dipping into your piggy bank.
This venture is estimated to generate over 30 billion dollars in revenue for the social media giant. With the recent announcement that Facebook was charging users $100.00 to send a direct message to Mark Zuckerberg, it goes to show that the social media giant is contemplating new ideas to increase revenue. The next question is: How will users react to Facebook introducing subscription fees?
Facebook has over one billion users worldwide; it helps us to keep in contact with each other and also to remember birthdays. Being asked to pay for the use of Facebook is like being asked to buy sand at a beach. If the social media giant decides to start charging users through subscriptions; it might just be the beginning of the end for Facebook. What do you think?
