What Overall Impact does Twitter have on Branding your Business?
Who would have ever thought 140 characters would have such a huge impact on people and branding? Since its conception, back in the spring of 2006, tweeting and its ‘tweeters’ have grown to an amazing 500 million total users (200 million active)! There seems to be a whole lot of tweeting going on.
But, for many years, Twitter was well known for its celebrity status more than anything else. If you wanted to know what Ashton Kutcher was eating for breakfast, all you had to do was become a follower.
Twitter and Branding
Branding yourself or even a business on Twitter has also taken a huge leap forward. Hastags for example or trending, became used as exclusive campaigns aimed at promoting or branding small and large businesses alike.
As you can see in the infographic below, electronics company LG started the trend #LGTicketHunter to promote the new Optimus L Series phone in the UK. LG aimed to create a fun, and interactive experience targeted to younger consumers. The #LGTicketHunter competition offered people the chance to win exclusive tickets to upcoming concerts, for bands like ‘Watch The Throne’ and the very popular ‘One Direction’.
The hashtag directed people to a microsite which featured a very cool interactive map of Britain. Every time someone sent a Tweet that included the Promoted Trend hashtag, the map would zoom in, gradually revealing the secret location of the @LGTicketHunter street team. The first person to arrive at the location won the tickets.
This groundbreaking digital campaign ran for five days, with the challenge of raising awareness for the contest, creating a buzz and driving engagement levels across the country. And guess what…it really worked.
We instantly saw massive spikes in conversation as people began to spread the word about the competition. We reached 5,000 Tweets per hour within the first hours of the launch, showing how excited people were about the prizes and how engaged they were with the execution of the competition.-Paul Chivers, Account Manager, Mindshare
