As you well know, tablets are incredibly popular. They are a staple in our modern and mobile life. The success of the Apple iPad, opened a flood gate to top competitors to come up with their own unique versions. In this past year alone, we have seen so many remarkable and innovative technologies adapted to tablets.

The 7-inch tablet is by far a favorite choice for gadget lovers everywhere. We have a pretty good feeling many of you will find it on a loved one’s Christmas wish list this year. With that being said, Geeks Holiday Gift Guide will show you that there is a 7-inch tablet made especially for their needs or wants.

So, whether you have a child who loves to learn or a teenager who loves to play games or maybe a partner who might need the perfect tablet for their business – we got you covered.

7 Inch Tablet for Entertainment

For those who love to read books or watch a movie…

Kindle Fire HD from Amazon

By far the best in this category is the Kindle Fire HD by Amazon. There is one reason alone why the 7-inch tablet from Amazon is the very best – Kindle Fire HD was developed to enjoy multimedia content. The HD screen offers a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, with polarising and anti-glare technology included so users can read and watch movies at any time of the day in every situation.

The Kindle Fire HD comes with good speakers and quality sound, which is one of the defining differences between the original Kindle and other popular tablets. The Kindle Fire HD also has all the basic apps you need to get connected; like Facebook, Twitter, Skype and Gmail.

If you want something a bit cheaper, you can opt for the Kindle fire – it does however, have a slower processor and less resolute screen.

7 Inch Tablet for Gaming

The Need for Speed…

Nexus 7 Tablet by Google

It may not come close to a huge HD screen T.V., but when a young one in your house hold is fighting to take control to play his or her favorite game in the living room, the solution is only a step away. A 7-inch tablet is a great tool for video games, especially when reading isn’t exactly a favorite hobby. Believe or not, a screen that size is perfect for video games and your thumbs. A smaller or even larger screen can make touch interactivity very limited.

If you really want to impress this Christmas, the Google Nexus 7 Inch tablet will do just fine. It is by far the most powerful 7-inch tablet out there today. The Nexus 7 was built by Asus and developed in conjunction with Google – an absolute incredible piece of Android technology considering how small it is.

Features on the Nexus 7 include a 3 Tegra quad processor, and it is the only 7-inch tablet to actually have a quad core processor. This shows that the Nexus 7 was in fact aimed at the gamers – with this type of processor, players get the ultimate game experience, with smooth and responsive controls.

The Nexus 7 comes with even cooler features, like a ten finger multi-touchscreen, accelerometer sensor and a gyroscope. And of course, we can’t forget that the Nexus 7 is driven by the latest Google operating system, the Jelly Bean. The Jelly Bean is what makes the Nexus 7 so special; users get to web-browse, check out their social media networks, email, read and even watch movies.

And even cooler, with more than 600 apps and games to choose from, there is no way on earth your teenager will get bored. Plus with recent updates, the Nexus 7 has more storage options and a 4G network connection.

And by far the best thing about Nexus 7 is its one of the cheapest tablets on the market!

7 Inch Tablet for Business

The Samsung Galaxy 7 Inch Tablet takes care of your work life on the Go

Samsung Galaxy 7

Yes, there is an app for that!

Since buying my iPad (third Gen), I use it for just about everything – I am even writing this article with my iPad. Tablets are just so darn accessible, comfortable and fun. For specific (and equally important) tasks, there honestly is no need for a lap-top.

Although you may be limited to certain tasks with a 7-inch tablet, it’s not to say you can’t use it on the go. The Samsung Galaxy 7-inch is perfect for carrying or reading important documents and articles; checking and answering short emails; including some more unique features such as video calls and video group chatting. This little tablet can be a handy companion for the busy-body.

The Samsung Galaxy 7-inch tablet offers excellent performance thanks to its dual core 1 GHz processor. It has an internal storage memory that can be extended with a microSD card if you want more space. The tablet runs on an Android 4.0 OS, which is one of the best operating systems on the market today. It also features 4G LTE capabilities allowing you a fast internet connection (additional wifi ) no matter where you are.

Another great feature about the Galaxy is it connects to other Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S3, the Galaxy tab 10-inch and Samsung notebooks. This allows users to share content between all devices instantly.

For the Apple Fan – The Best 7 Inch Tablet

For Just about Everything…

Apple's iPad Mini

Last month, Apple released its highly anticipated 7-inch tablet – the iPad Mini. What you need to know right off the bat is the iPad Mini is expensive, in fact is the most expensive out of all the 7-inch tablets. But when it comes to practicality, design and features, you can’t go wrong with Apple.

However, before considering the Mini, important questions should be asked first:

Does it come with unique features or advanced technology that might be worth the money?

Has its specifications improved when comparing to the iPad 2?

Both these questions have the same answers – No. No, the iPad Mini does not have any advanced technologies or features installed; and no, there is virtually no difference to specs you might find on the iPad second generation. The only thing you will find on the iPad Mini that’s a bit different is wirless and cellular data (4G).

Don’t get me wrong, the iPad mini is a fantastic device and the perfect gift idea for Apple lovers. It works very well; the screen has fantastic contrast and color, but has a low resolution of only 1024 x 768 pixels. The A5 processor works wonderfully, but as you can see from this article, it isn’t the fastest on the market.

So, why should you consider buying it?

The iPad Mini is beautifully constructed, and you won’t find the design anywhere else on the market. Quality plays a big part in choice, when deciding on the perfect tablet. With that in mind, Apple’s iPad Mini is the perfect choice.

However, by far the biggest reason to consider purchasing a mini is Apple’s iOS – the most advanced operating system the world over. If your loved one already owns an iPhone and/or Macbook, the iPad mini is a great choice because of the powerful way Apple devices connect with each other through iCloud.

Deciding on the mini will just come down to how much money you are willing to spend; but if you have a house hold full of committed Apple lovers, you will be left with very little choice.

Conclusion: Why should you buy a 7 Inch Tablet this Christmas instead of a 10?

For the obvious listed reasons:

  • They cost considerably less
  • They offer almost the exact specs as a 10-inch
  • They weigh less and are more comfortable to handle

And of course, if you love watching movies, reading books, browsing the net, playing games, checking your email, video chatting, and getting social, it is the perfect gift and solution.

Tablets are one of the fastest growing electronics products of 2013 and are giving laptops and net books a serious run for their money. Thanks to vast amounts of apps, and simplicity of use, the very best tablets have become versatile devices, from browsing the web, writing an email or staying connected via social media, to reading a good book, watching movies and TV programs, gaming or even using them as productivity tools, they can do it all. In some cases the once humble tablet can even become your primary computing device, particularly Windows 8 tablets with a keyboard, but which is the best tablet, or more importantly, which tablet is right for you
